Sometimes life requires sacrifices because with a family means child seats and a minivan. Others such as this owner knows how to combine both and kill 2 birds with one stone. With plenty of toy cars in his garage already, he came to us with this new volvo XC90 which is known for it's safety and value but not for it's audio. The factory system left many of the modern day conveniences we need to survive so we created a simple formula for success.
The factory system is a tricky network of canbus and oem parts that are not easy to integrate with the aftermarket system. We enlisted the help of Soundgate with one of their many useful interfaces to get this job done.
The audio system needs to be able to play DVD's and also let him use his Ipod so we picked an Eclipse AVN-5495 deck as the heart of the system. This unit was custom mounted on a trim bezel and shaped to fit the OEM beveled lines. This unit has the ability to rip music onto it's 30gb hard drive while playing it in the car. It can store nearly 5000 songs with custom playlists so you never need to carry a CD with you again. It also handles DVD's, does NAVI and controls the radio, Ipod and back up camera functions. With the high nature of an SUV, a backup camera was carefully aimed so the owner can see if there are any kids or other objects behind the truck. The camera is built into the license plate frame to minimize any drilling.
Speeding is the least likely thing in an SUV with kids but it's still nice to know when cops are around so again Valentine was called upon with their V1 setup. We had it all custom mounted with the remote display near the B-pillar for warnings. A CigBlue Bluetooth unit was installed as well so phone calls are safe to pick up as the stereo will mute the driver's side speaker for any phone calls.
Volvo makes a great safe SUV and now it's a great sounding SUV as well!
