The owner of this BMW is both discerning and tasteful at the same time. He bought this 2006 528i as a commuter car but wanted to have some fun with it as well. With a growing family and the need for space this BMW 5-series is a great choice with roomy seating for five passengers but the exterior looked a bit bland.
He dropped off the car to our shop with 2 simple requirements: Improve the looks and also improve the audio system. We tackled this project by first going to AC Schnitzer for some assistance. The body kit made by ACS is probably one of the best fitting kits on the market with very few screws needed. Everything bolts on by snapping in place and using tape or a few small screws for attachment. The ACS kit included the roof spoiler, trunk spoiler front and rear valence plus the sideskirts. A set of H/R springs were used to drop the car to a more sporty level and DPE was called out for a set of 20" stagger 3-piece rims/tires. Finally a custom exhaust with dual tips was fabricated to finish off the car's stance. (note the owner eventually decided to go to a set of 19" Hamann rims because the 20" rim/tire combo was too harsh for daily driving.
Most modern day BMW's feature their Idrive system which is both high tech and also the car's main trouble spot when upgrades were done. The owner wanted NAVI and DVD playback since he bought the car without NAVI. After deliberating a few ideas the conclusion was to install a Pioneer double DIN unit in the lower part of the dash to handle the audio/NAVI duties. The OEM Idrive system still functions but essentially all audio is now done through the AUX input and is handled by the Pioneer unit. A custom bezel was finished off to complete the clean look.
Overall this audio system fit the bill for the owner as it delivers on all the requirements which makes a great daily commuter!
